About the Library
The Stanislaus County Law Library is a public Library established by the Board of Supervisors in
1893. We have provided free access to legal information for the judiciary, members of the State Bar,
public officials, and toall residents of the county for more than 100 years.
Our Collection consists of 12,747 books. In addition, we hold both data and audio CDs, and we also
offer access to a variety of other legal materials through our several legal databases.
Who Can Use the Library
The Stanislaus County Law Library provides free access to legal information for the judiciary,
members of the State Bar, public officials, and to all residents of the county. The Library is available
to everyone who needs to use materials unique to the task of legal research.
Circulation (checkout privileges) is limited to qualified borrowers. To become a qualified borrower,
please see a staff member. A copy of the qualified borrower application can be found here, and a copy

Afterhours access is available to local attorneys and members of the Judiciary, subject to the Library’s
afterhours policy. A copy of the after hours policy is available for download here and an application for
after hours access is available for download here or from ask a Library staff member.
Courtesy Guidelines
Conduct - Our goal is to provide an environment conducive to productive Legal Research. For this
reason, we ask all patrons to respect the quiet working environment of those around them. Solicitation
of any kind is strictly prohibited. A complete copy of the Patron Conduct Policy can be found here.
Cell Phones - All cell phone conversations are prohibited within the main library area. Telephone calls
are permitted in rented conference or study rooms. Please turn off the ringer to your cell phone before
coming into the Library.
Food and Beverages - Food and drinks are allowed only in designated conference and study rooms.
All drinks should be in spill resistant containers.
Staff Assistance
The Stanislaus County Law Library Staff is committed to providing the legal community and the public
with exemplary reference assistance. Library staff is available to assist patrons in identifying and
locating relevant text and online resources to answer and research legal questions. Staff cannot give
legal advice or assist with form preparation.
